LAURA MAROTTA

Using modularity as a starting point, Laura measures, cuts and folds detailed cardboard maquettes that function as three-dimensional models for her larger works. Using geometry to shape complex tilting and asymmetrical volumes, her compositions consider negative space as a component in each finished form. In referencing utopian architecture, public shelters, and colour swatches appropriated from developers of suburban homes, her sculptures operate as speculative forms grounded in the here-and-now, inviting us to consider interactions between form, colour, and the viewer themselves as an intellectual and physical being.
